Amateur Hockey Report Scout
September 24, 2010

AHR CS scouts watched the Plymouth Whalers @ Windsor Spitfires game September 13, 2010 after which the following scouting notes were turned in:

Plymouth Whalers
Nick Malysa '93 - D: Malysa had a solid game as a rearguard. He showed a very good shot that had a lot of power to it. He handled the puck well under pressure and while moving it up ice. He played the puck and man well along the boards and all around looked like an NHL caliber defender. AHR Rating: AA

Tom Wilson '94 - RW: Wilson got some time on the penalty kill in this game and looked good. It is tough as the season is just starting, but he looks to be a top rookie in the league and should be watched by NHL teams. His skill level is good and sometimes high, when he wants to make things happen. He really got on his game towards the end of the contest where he was hitting and making things happen. AHR Rating: AA

Stefan Noesen '93 - RW: Noesen didn't look to be on his game in this contest. We have seen him play better, but the season is long and we are sure he will come on strong when it counts. He moved the puck well and positioned to support the play. AHR Rating: AAA

Garrett Meurs '93 - C: Meurs definitely looked the part tonight. he supports the puck very well and uses his very good hands to make plays. Able to find the open player and win draws, he brings a lot to the table. NHL teams will be watching him a lot this season. AHR Rating: AAA

Rickard Rakell '93 - RW: Rakell had good speed which helped him get chances. He looked to be a good all around player, this being our first viewing we will see how he does this season. He has played well for his native Sweden in International competition and we expect he will do well in the OHL. AHR Rating: A

Dario Trutmann '92 - D: Trutmann in an import from Switzerland who just missed the cut off for last summers NHL Entry Draft. This season he looks to be a player who will need to improve to be considered for the 2011 edition of the Draft. He has good skills but still needs to adjust to the North American game a bit. We did like his physical side and he had a few big hits. AHR Rating: BBB

Adam Nanji '93 - RW: Nanji didn't do to much in the game, so we will continue to watch his this season. AHR Rating: BB

Max Iafrate '94 - D: For his first OHL game he looked just fine on the ice. He wasn't a force but then again he is so young and has two years to leave his mark. He didn't make any major mistakes and played pretty solid on the blueline. AHR Rating: AA

Matt Mahalak '93 - G: Mahalak started the game looking like he was ready for the challenge of the OHL, but by the end he had fallen off greatly. We still think he is a very good tender and will for sure be drafted in the NHL next summer but he needs to be better. He made great saves and followed the puck well in the first half of the game, but towards the end he looked lazy and gave up a few goals, which contributed to his teams loss. AHR Rating: AA

-----

Windsor Spitfires
Craig Duininck '93 - D: After a good season last year, he looked right at home on the blueline. He struggled a bit to clear the puck at the start of the game but after a period he was making solid outlet passes. He showed a good shot and rushed the puck well. He looked composed and we expect him to move up NHL rankings. AHR Rating: AA

Brendan McCann '93 - LW: McCann has good skill but will need to improve a lot to make a run at the NHL. AHR Rating: BBB

Nick Ebert '94 - D: Ebert hasn't lost a step between the USHL and the OHL. He played his physical style and played on the power play. He clears the puck easily and backup his teammates when ever stupid stuff happens on the ice. Well on his way to being a first round pick in a couple years. AHR Rating: AAA

Eric Locke '93 - C: Locke gets on the puck quickly and into the zone first a lot. He looked good and could have a chance in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. AHR Rating: BBB

Grant Webermin '94 - D: We weren't sure how well he would do, but he totally looked the part in this game. He came out strong and moved the puck quickly and effectively. He showed good movement with the puck and gap control. He never seemed rattled and looks like he will have a great season. AHR Rating: AA

Steven Trojanovic '93 - D: After a year with Oakville-CCHL he has come into the OHL as one of the best rookies. He looked very good throughout the game. he moves the puck well around the offense. He is a solid player who isn't flashy but gets the job done. AHR Rating: AA

Michael Whaley '93 - C: A lackluster performance from a player with good skill, is going to need to improve a lot this season. AHR Rating BB

Alexander Khokhlachev '93 - C: Wow can this guy play hockey. After being taken high in the CHL Import Draft, he is ready to make a name for himself ahead of his NHL Draft. He was outstanding from start to finish. He is right up there as one of the best Russians we have seen in his age group. He is very quick to get on the puck and move in the offensive zone. He plays the power play and is a asset to his team everywhere on the ice. NHL teams will be flocking to see him this season. AHR Rating: AAA

Brady Vail '94 - LW: Vail looks like the player he once was before going to the USHL, he was always made for the OHL. He played well defensively and looked very good on offense. He was good on the puck and stays in the play strong, always making sure there is a scoring chance. He is big a strong, a very good power forward. AHR Rating: AA
